Thirty-five creatures.
Ten rounds.
Five mythologies in one deck. Pick a rating on your card and hope it beats whatever the Oracle is holding. We toss a coin for who chooses first, then you take turns. A drawn round carries over and makes the next one worth more.
How a round works
One of you picks a rating
Spin to see who goes first. Whoever’s turn it is chooses one of the six rows on their card.
Both cards turn over
Your card and the Oracle’s show the same row, and the two numbers sit side by side.
The higher number wins the round
Then it is the other player’s turn to choose. You alternate all the way to round ten.
Equal numbers carry over
A drawn round is not lost, it is added to the next one. Draw twice and the round after is worth three.
The six ratings
Every creature is scored one to five on each of these, the same numbers printed on the cards and the posters.
- Danger
- Magic
- Power
- Speed
- Size
- Spooky
What is in the deck
Thirty-five creatures: seven each from Greek, Egyptian, Norse, Japanese and Chinese myth, so no one tradition can run the table.
Print the real deck for a classroom
This is the screen version of a free printable deck. The paper cards play the same way, work without a device, and come with teacher notes and curriculum links for KS2 and Year 4.
