Creatures from five mythologies side by side at twilight: a bull-headed minotaur, the jackal-headed Anubis, a great grey wolf, a white nine-tailed fox and a Chinese dragon arching overhead.

Free mythology resources for the classroom

Printable posters and ready-to-teach activities for ages 7-14+.

A free resource for schools.

Print, display and photocopy freely.

Twenty-five display posters across five mythologies, plus three classroom activities with teacher notes and answers. Everything is print-and-go: no preparation, no login, no watermarks.

We publish illustrated field guides to the creatures of world mythology. These are the classroom versions: the same artwork, the same research, built to go on a wall or in front of a class.

Mythological Creatures is an independent project, and keeping these stories in circulation is the reason it exists. The move from picture books to longer reading is one of the hardest steps a child takes, and it is often where a reader is won or lost. Myths carry a child across it: the artwork pulls them in, and the stories are strange enough to be worth the effort. Every class that meets them keeps the legends alive a little longer, which is why we offer these teaching resources.

Curriculum links

EnglandNational Curriculum (England, 2014)
KS2 English on myths and legends, and KS2 History on how we know about the past from sources. KS2 History names Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, the Vikings and the Shang Dynasty, so four of the five poster sets sit in a unit teachers already have to teach. Nothing is claimed above Year 6.
United StatesCommon Core State Standards
Grade 4 English language arts, and the C3 source-comparison skill on the comparison task. Only Grade 4 has a standard about comparing myths across cultures, so this column is deliberately narrow.
AustraliaAustralian Curriculum v9.0
English and literacy across Years 3 to 8, and History at Years 7 and 8 for the posters. Australia has no ancient-world content at primary; it arrives at Year 7, with the medieval and Asia-Pacific depth studies at Year 8.

These are the year levels where this resource has a named curriculum home. They are not a limit, and much of the material carries across other age groups.
